To briefly sum up the first section of the article, the author writes about how in some kinds of work, in order to be successful, you not only have to have correct or accurate ideas, but you also have to come up ones that most of society have never thought of or might have opposing opinions to. For example, coming up with a business idea that many people already have, would not be nearly as successful than if you come up with one that no one has ever thought of. The author also states that many people with independent minds, don't recognize that they have different ideas whereas people who are more conventional minded have a hard time thinking of themselves as conventional minded person.
